Brigitte McQueen (she|they) is an entrepreneur, an eternal optimist, and a visionary leader who turns big ideas into tangible impact. With deep roots in the nonprofit sector, Brigitte understands the hustle, the hardships, and the joy that fuel what she calls “The Good Work.”
As the founder and Executive Director Emeritus of The Union for Contemporary Art in Omaha, Nebraska. Brigitte transformed a vibrant vision for the arts into a thriving hub for creativity and community engagement. A Detroit native with a Journalism degree from St. John’s University in New York City, she began her career as an editor and production manager at "Teen People" magazine before pivoting to nonprofit leadership.
Over her 15 years in the nonprofit world, Brigitte has done it all. From program development to executive leadership, she’s led organizations, completed two successful capital campaigns, and guided leadership transitions. Whether as a staff member, Executive Director, or board member, she’s lived the nonprofit experience— she’s been there and done that. She gets it.
In 2024, Brigitte launched McQueen + Co., a consultancy dedicated to supporting nonprofit leaders, staff, and organizations. With a passion for people-centered leadership and a commitment to building healthier organizational cultures, she partners with clients to help ensure that their nonprofits are vibrant, equitable, and sustainable.
Brigitte believes that together, we can ensure the good work feels good—not just for communities served but for the people making it happen.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Brigitte is a pastry chef, a writer, an advocate for the arts, and a proud mom of two amazing daughters. She finds joy in great playlists, poetry anthologies, getting dirty in the garden, and, of course, warm chocolate chip cookies—her true love language.
